After participating in a visit to a children's center, I interviewed one of the participants to gain deeper insight into his experience and emotions.

He shared that the children's bright smiles truly warmed his heart and that spending time with them brought him an overwhelming sense of joy.

However, he noticed that some children initially appeared shy or anxious during the interactions. He reflected that they might have felt uneasy around strangers. As the group played games and engaged more, though, the children gradually opened up and became much less reserved.

What touched him most deeply was the remarkable resilience and courage the children showed. Even when faced with challenges during the games, they remained positive and upbeat—an attitude that profoundly inspired him.

Overall, the visit left a lasting impact on him. It not only fostered a meaningful connection with the children but also strengthened his sense of social responsibility and concern for the community.

Volunteering leaves me feeling incredibly fulfilled. There’s something truly special about knowing you’ve made a positive difference in someone’s life or in your community. It’s not just about giving my time—it’s about giving a piece of my heart.

I’ve found connections I never expected. On one particular day, I met so many adorable kids, and I was overjoyed to be able to help them. Those moments were absolutely heartwarming and unforgettable.

Volunteering has also shifted my perspective and helped me grow personally. I’ve learned how to care for children, built my confidence, and discovered that not every child is naughty—far from it!

I want to thank those children for bringing so much happiness into my life. If I get more opportunities, I would love to volunteer again.

Volunteering experience at Jolly Bean Learning Centre

Introduction
Last month, several of our classmates volunteered at the Jolly Bean Learning Centre. They assisted some primary school students with their homework, played engaging games with them, and distributed souvenirs as gifts. We interviewed volunteers from two groups: one from Mickey's group and the other from Kenneth's group.

Interviewee: Cheng Kin Lam (3B 01)

We interviewed Alvina about her experience in the volunteering program. She described the students as adorable, noting how they laughed happily while playing games together. Although some of the children were occasionally naughty, she understood that this was simply part of their nature.

Additionally, Alvina said the program significantly enhanced her project management skills. The volunteers were responsible for purchasing all the souvenirs and board games themselves, which helped develop their money management abilities. Furthermore, communicating with the children to assist with their homework greatly improved their communication skills overall.

We interviewed Thomas and Andy about their experiences in the volunteering program. Both reported that the children were far better behaved than they had anticipated. Their worst-case scenario had been inactive, disruptive students who were difficult to manage, but fortunately, this proved unfounded.

While some children were not particularly active during the games, most were highly engaged and enthusiastic. One interviewee noted that the children were remarkably skilled at the games. The volunteers had originally planned to lose on purpose to spare the children's feelings, but this turned out to be entirely unnecessary. The kids grasped the rules quickly, requiring minimal explanation before fully understanding them.

The children were also much less naughty than expected, with most behaving impeccably. However, one interviewee mentioned an instance where a child suddenly pounded the desk loudly while listening to instructions.

Additionally, the children's English proficiency exceeded expectations. When assisting with homework, the volunteers were pleasantly surprised by how well the students performed, which motivated them to continue teaching. The kids proved fully capable of quickly mastering the skills introduced.

Finally, both interviewees highlighted how delighted the children were with the souvenirs. One even recalled a child joyfully running around with his prize after winning a game.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this volunteering program provided a wonderful opportunity for both the children and my classmates to connect and offer meaningful support. Based on the interviews, it is clear that the children and volunteers alike were highly satisfied with the experience. This was evident when one child eagerly asked the interviewees if they would return in the future.

Overall, the program proved deeply meaningful, helping participants discover the profound joy that comes from helping others. All interviewees expressed a strong willingness to volunteer at the same center again.

Furthermore, the initiative benefited everyone involved. For the children, it not only imparted new knowledge and experiences but also created lasting happy memories. For my classmates, it honed valuable skills such as project management, money management, time management, and communication.

Most importantly, as the saying goes, "Do not refrain from a good deed, even if it seems small." Though our classmates dedicated just one or two hours to the program, the positive impact on the children could very well last a lifetime.
